What is Google Bomb ?

Refers to an attempt to influence and manipulate the ranking of a web page in the search results returned by Google. Due to a loophole in Google’s algorithm, a site can be ranked higher than its usual position if the backlinks that point to it all use similar anchor text. For instance, if Joe Somebody registers multiple domains and each and every one of them links to a main website with the anchor text ‘Joe Somebody,’ then looking up ‘Joe Somebody’ on Google will feature the main site in a top ranking position in the search results.

Here’s a quick example of one of the most popular Google Bombs: then-president George W. Bush’s official White House biography page was linked to by thousands of websites using the anchor text ‘miserable failure.’ As a result, the page was returned as the top result whenever someone entered the phrase ‘miserable failure’ into Google.
