Oldies But Goodies, A Few Great Offline Marketing Tactics That Still Work

Internet marketing is very popular right now and rightly so. We live in the information age, where most people young or old are jumping online for a variety of reasons. While online marketing can yield amazing results, it is important to remember that people live in the offline world, too. Offline marketing is still effective and should not be left out of your business marketing efforts. While some offline marketing methods are no long as effective as they once were, here are a few that still work beautifully for gaining attention and a positive brand image.

Flyers

Anyone with a computer and a printer these days can print out beautiful color or black and white flyers that entice customers to buy, visit or call. The trick with flyers is to keep it simple. Don’t fill your flyers with so much stuff that people become cross-eyed trying to make heads or tails of it. Make your offer, leave your contact info and keep everything nicely organized.

Flyers can be left on car windows (though some consider this to be rude), they can be handed out at relevant events and they can be tacked up on bulletin boards. Make a lot of copies, color code them to track your progress in various markets and you will soon see just how effective flyer marketing can be.

Direct Mailers/Postcards

Many businesses are making a killing strictly through direct mailers. These are either letters or postcards that offer a special or promotion, or they may announce your grand opening. These direct mail pieces typically have an offer that customers can take advantage of. Everyone gets mail so this is still a viable way to reach your audience. Plus, if you’re super creative and you set out to make your direct mailers different than all of your competitors, you’ll reach even more people with this very effective marketing technique.

Referral Programs

One of the best ways to get your message out to the masses offline is to use word-of-mouth advertising. You should start with your best customers. Tell these customers that you will give them a discount or some type of special for each customer they refer. Your best customers are obviously going to talk up your store to everyone they know, and this way you can put a little money in their pocket for doing so.

Referral programs are highly-effective at getting more people through your doors and for boosting sales, especially if you can be creative and create a program that nobody has ever seen before. Make it fun, make the offer a special one and you’ll soon have many more customers than you did before.

Seminar

It is important to think big when you begin marketing your business. One of the grandest techniques for offline marketing is to hold a seminar for your audience. If you are a local business offering personal training services, you can hold a seminar for people who want to lose weight. If you’re an accountant, you can hold a seminar for other small business owners who are looking for tips on handling their taxes and books. If you think outside the box and you’re able to secure a meeting area at a local hotel or meeting hall, you’ll be able to attract like-minded people that can turn into hungry buyers if you play your cards right.

When you have a captive audience and you are able to teach them something that they didn’t know before, you’ll have them eating out of the palm of your hand by the time the seminar is through. The seminar doesn’t have to be huge, but it does have to be advertised. Use all the other offline techniques you learned here to get the word out about your seminar and you’ll soon have a packed house of potential customers.

Newspaper/Print Advertising

Advertising in the local newspaper, trade papers and in actual print magazines can be incredibly expensive. Even buying ad space in your local Yellow Pages can become very costly, even for a tiny ad. While these offline methods may cost a lot, they are still incredibly effective. Believe it or not, people still read the paper and they still use the yellow pages. You may want to consider print advertising to complement your other offline marketing and online marketing techniques for extra effect.

The fact is, if you put all of these techniques into action and you complement them with a healthy online marketing portfolio, your business will soon be bursting with business and your sales figures will explode.
